We worked with Natalie Tan at Retail Excellence last year when we needed to revamp and add to our retail space. In Vancouver, my husband and I own and operate DogPlay, a dog daycare, boarding, and grooming facility. We also have a retail store front where our customers come in to drop off and pick up their dogs. We initially designed our retail space ourselves, but we knew it wasn’t set up to be utilized to its full potential. Natalie came in and immediately showed us where we could improve. Very quickly and efficiently she redesigned our layout, provided us with a blue print of where to set up our new shelving units, and she even gave us a very detailed shopping list of exactly what kind of shelving units and hardware to purchase for the space. We were thrilled. She made the entire process extremely straightforward and easy. After completing other renovations it was very nice to work with Natalie who was timely, and easy to get in touch with and talk to. Natalie even provided us with a template for new signage in our store, where we can display our branding in a discreet and effective manner. We highly recommend Natalie to any business that is looking to get the most out of their retail space. We are a service based business, but we move product in our retail space every day consistently, and we have Natalie to thank for that.

GOALS
- Create a selling space for a dog day care business that will invite existing customers to purchase their food supplies and accessories from DogPlay
- The plan was to carry only high quality products unique to the market place. Therefore the set-up must be a boutique style set-up instead of the traditional grid set-up used by pet supply stores
CHALLENGES
- Very limited amount of space is allocated for retail
- Dogplay occupied 2 units in the building where one unit juts out further than the other therefore there was an obvious differentiation in the retail space where it flowed. In order to ascertain the best placement for core destination vs. peripheral categories, traffic flow was taken into consideration and it was determined that a change of entry was warranted. This meant customers coming to drop off or pick up their dogs would enter through the peripheral retail display area first before getting to the drop off door where the destination products are housed
